McLeod battles Hawkins

McLeod’s basketball program took on Hawkins on Jan. 27. The boys’ game was close until the final quarter in which McLeod pulled away for a 46-35 win. The Lady Longhorns fell to Hawkins 68-44.

Longhorns

This contest was a thriller for three quarters as the teams traded basketfor- basket. Hawkins came out of the first quarter with a 12-11 lead and had a 20-19 lead at the break. Both teams scored six points apiece in the third frame and the ’Horns were down 26-25 going into the final quarter.

The Longhorns (20-9) outdistanced Hawkins 21-9 in the fourth stanza to pull out another victory.

Kannon Dempsey had 16 points, Brennan Penny added 13, Henry Teer posted nine, Grayson Owens had four and Parker Patrick had four.

Lady Longhorns

The Lady Longhorns had quite a battle as Hawkins brought the heat. McLeod was down 39-18 at the half and was outscored 29-16 in the second half.

Jaci Armstrong poured in 12 points, Kenslee Cross added 10, Reagan Johnson had 10, Chassie Gryder eight and Reagan Mitchell two.
