Atlanta State Park Holiday Lights

Atlanta State Park presented their longtime tradition of Christmas in the Park Friday and Saturday, giving families a drive-thru show of spectacular festivals lights in return for a couple canned food donations.

Each camper, many of them regulars at the state park, decorated their campsite with a litany of lovely lights, nativity scenes, and waving inflatable Christmas characters, such as Santa, Mrs. Clause, reindeer and nativity scenes.

Vera Aucoin, a local and campsite regular said she has been participating in the event since it started several years ago. Aucoin had a camper decked out with lights and her lovely minions.

“My niece, Danielle (Sebring) came down from Kansas City and my daughter Crystal (Aucoin) came down from Hot Springs, Arkansas—just for this,” Vera Aucoin said. Aucoin was proud to also have her sister Vicky Fleener out Saturday night, as well. Fleener brought her Teepee, which was classically decorated with white lights—along with a nearby tree. Sweet little snowmen stood out front of the campsite to proclaim happy holidays to all.

“We’ve been coming out here for years,” Vera Aucoin said. “15 years, ever since they started this.”

Vera’s sister, Vicky’s Teepee has been in use the better part of a decade she said.

“One year, it hailed and a windstorm kicked up,” Vera said. “That Teepee didn’t move.”

Several other families were set up to camp, with their festive decor on display for families driving through with little ones to see the lights.
