Bloomburg’s varsity girls’ basketball squad opened its season with a 36-21 win over Redwater and followed that up with a 51-34 win over FM 74 neighbor Queen City.

Losses to McLeod and Genoa Central came just before a string of tournament wins for the Lady Wildcats.

In the Saltillo tourney, Bloomburg edged Hooks 65-63, beat Wolfe City 51-45, topped Prairiland 6423 and defeated Cooper 61-39.

The only two losses during that stretch were to host Saltillo and Huckaby.

Before the Thanksgiving the Lady ’Cats thumped Redwater for a second time this season 52-29, and picked up a win over McLeod 34-22 which avenged a loss to the Lady Longhorns earlier in the season.

The Lady Wildcats take part in the McLeod varsity girls’ tournament beginning on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Atlanta

Atlanta’s varsity boys’ team opened its season with a 52-42 win over Avinger, fell to rival Liberty-Eylau 79-68, topped Quitman 56-44 and ran over Tatum 67-52.

Queen City

Queen City’s varsity girls’ basketball team opened its season with a 51-34 loss to Bloomburg but rebounded nicely to take down Pleasant Grove 45-39.

The Lady Bulldogs lost a close game to Jefferson 55-52, but won its next two by beating Arkansas High 44-33 and Hughes Springs 46-18.

After losses to Fouke and PG, the Lady Bulldogs thumped Daingerfield 60-16 and then beat Pittsburg 42-37.

McLeod

McLeod’s varsity girls’ team beat Avery 34-23 on Nov. 21.

The Lady Longhorns had a 24-18 lead at the break and outscored Avery 10-5 in the second half to win the contest. Jaci Armstrong scored 13, Chassie Gryder posted 10, Kenslee Cross had four and Reagan Mitchell had four.

McLeod won the JV game 23-5 with Maddy Blair putting up 11 points and Rylee Parker eight.
