AMS football battles Gladewater

In the first quarter, the Rabbs received the opening kickoff, and started with good field position. TJ Rainey, and Cannon Hammonds both had big runs to set Atlanta up deep in Bear territory. The next play, quarterback Deondrae Simmons dropped the snap, picked it up and escaped the defense for a 9-yard touchdown run to put Atlanta up 6-0.

Jamario Crawford recovered the ensuing kickoff. The Rabbs set up in Bears territory again, but a tipped pass was intercepted on the next play.

Gladewater hit a long pass to even the score at 6-6. The Rabbs answered back quickly, after putting together a nice drive, Simmons scored again from 21 yards out. Ean Riojas added the 2-point play to make it 14-6.

On the next drive, the Bears threw a backwards lateral pass, recovered by Atlanta. This time Rainey would get to work, dashing 50 yards on a touchdown run. That made the score 20-6. Atlanta recovered another onside kick, Riojas corralled the loose ball.

In the second stanza, Atlanta quickly got on the board again as Rainey and Simmons carried the load. Simmons finished the drive with a 14-yard TD scamper. Crawford added the 2-point run and Atlanta was up 28-6.

In the third quarter, Gladewater added a score on a time consuming drive to push the score to 28-12.

In the fourth frame, Atlanta answered back with a nice drive, finished off with a 15-yard run from Rainey. Simmons added the 2-point run and the score was 36-12. Gladewater scored again late in the game to make it 36-18 final. The Rabbits seventh grade moved to 7-0 on the season.

7B -AJ Falls, Joey Hopkins, and Eddie Smith were standouts.

8A -The AMS eighth grade A team fell to a good Gladewater team. TJ Hamilton had a big night on the ground with eight carries for 120 yards.
