Man arrested after hunting incident in Cass County
An area hunter was arrested after a shot from a 12-gauge shotgun injured a member of the threeman hunting party in Cass County, said Shawn Hervey, Texas Game Warden Daniel Abston, 57, of Naples, Texas was arrested and charged with deadly conduct, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana, and tampering with evidence, according to law enforcement officials.
“The accident occurred with Abston fired a 12 gauge shotgun in the direction of a sound and movement in the woods without identifying his target,” Hervey said.
The victim, Jason Clint Mills, 49, also from Naples, was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mills’ condition is unknown at this time.
Hervey said about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Texas Game Warden was dispatched to the hunting accident in Cass County at Black Point, where they arrested Abston.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Division Game Wardens are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
“The victim and suspect were part of a three-person party hunting together,” Hervey said.
