Atlanta Rabbits slam Bears 42-21 in district play

Atlanta, like many other teams that played last Friday night, had its issues with a heavy rain system that threatened to delay or cancel games altogether.

The Rabbs and its opponents, the Gladewater Bears, had to ride out a lightning delay for an hour, but did get to start and finish a game in the same night.

The two teams went back-and-forth for a bit but in the end the Rabbs prevailed by a score of 42-21.

First Quarter

Kam Dickerson scored on a 42-yard run to put Atlanta up 6-0 and Juan Campos hit the point after to set the score at 7-0, Rabbs.

Gladewater scored a couple of minutes later and after the successful PAT the score was tied at 7-all.

With under two minutes to go in the first frame Atlanta QB Peyton Harrison scored on a QB keeper from two yards out.

Campos hit the PAT and Atlanta was back on top 14-7.

Second Quarter

With just under six minutes to play in the first half Gladewater scored again. The PAT was good and the score was tied 14-14.

With around two minutes left in the quarter Markeylin Batton scored from 14 yards out. Campos hit the PAT and Atlanta was back up 21-14.

Third Quarter

Batton scored his second TD of the game around the seven minute mark. Campos nailed the PAT and Atlanta increased its lead to 28-14.

Fourth Quarter

Batton added his third touchdown of the contest in the fourth quarter, and Stacy Darty added one of his own to wrap up the Atlanta scoring.

Campos hit both PAT’s for Atlanta and with Gladewater scoring again with a good PAT the score was set at 42-21.

Harrison was 4-of-5 passing for 39 yards and had a rushing TD, Batton rolled up 161 yards on the ground with three touchdowns, Dickerson added 89 yards rushing with a score and Darty had 36 yards rushing with a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, Russ Limbrick had nine tackles, Ja’marion Owens added eight, Marquavion Owens had eight, Carmello Henderson five, Brenden Clayton four and Isaiah Chandler four.

Dimoree Limbrick had a fumble recovery and Clayton added a sack.

The Rabbs host Tatum this Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
