AMS football splits with Jefferson

Atlanta Middle School split games with Jefferson last week.

In the first frame for seventh grade A team, it was a defensive battle early on. Both teams made defensive stops.

In the second quarter, the Rabbs drove deep into Jefferson territory, but turned it over on downs. On the next drive, the Rabbs’ defense forced a three-and-out.

On fourth down, Breckin Wells tackled the punter for a big loss on a bad snap. Atlanta took over deep in Bulldog territory. A couple of plays later, Deondrae Simmons reversed field and scored from seven yards out. Jamario Crawford added the 2-point run and Atlanta was up 8-0.

In the third stanza, Simmons found Hayes Highland wide open on a pass play, and Highland took it 46 yards to pay dirt. Crawford added the 2-point play to make it 16-0. On the next Jefferson drive, Highland made a tremendous interception. Later in the quarter, Crawford bolted through the line, split the safeties and housed it from 68 yards out to increase the score to 22-0.

In the fourth quarter, Jefferson added a late score to make it 22-6. Atlanta’s seventh grade A team moves to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in district play.

The eighth grade A team suffered a tough loss and fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in district play.
