Atlanta Middle School Rabbs sweep Lions
Atlanta Middle School’s football program had two big wins against New Boston on Sept. 8.
Seventh Grade AMS 28 - Lions 16
In the first quarter, TJ Rainey scampered around the edge for a 32-yard score, and Deondrea Simmons added the 2-point play to make it 8-0.
On the Rabbs’ next drive, fullback Cannon Hammonds split the middle of the field on a 50-yard dash for a touchdown. Simmons added the 2-point play to make it 16-0.
In the second frame, New Boston put together a nice drive and punched it in to make it 16-6. The Rabbs answered quickly on a 51-yard run from Simmons and was up 22-6 at the half.
In the third stanza, Simmons busted another long run, but lost the ball through the end zone for a touchback.
He made up for it on the next play as he stripped the ball from the New Boston ball carrier and took it all the way for a touchdown which put the Rabbs up 28-6.
In the fourth quarter, New Boston added a late score to make it 28-16. With the win the Rabbs move to 1-0 on the young season.
In the first frame, Liam McKinney swung the ball to Kaigen Lloyd who broke multiple tackles and scored on the first play from scrimmage. Great blocking on the edge by Dailen Collins and Kam Williams helped lead the way. Jaylen Finley added the 2- point play and the Rabbs were up 8-0.
The Rabbit defense made a big stop in the red zone and on the ensuing drive, TJ Hamilton busted a big run, followed by Kam Williams, and McKinney all picking up first downs into Lion territory.
In the second quarter, the Rabbs finished the drive in nice fashion as McKinney, in the arms of a defender, made a great throw to Lloyd who waltzed into the end zone from 24 yards out.
The Rabbs were up 14-0 and the score stayed that way going into halftime as the Rabbit defense shut down the Lions for the rest of the half.
In the third quarter, Aiden Eason picked off a Lion pass with a nice return to set the Rabbs up with good field position. Lloyd scored his third touchdown of the game a few plays later from 25 yards out.
Finley added the 2-point play for the Rabbs and AMS was up 22-0.
Later in the quarter Finley drug multiple defenders for a 17-yard run into New Boston territory.
In the fourth quarter, after another defensive stand, Lloyd once again escaped the Lions’ defense for another huge gain, tackled just inside the 5-yard line.
Finley finished the drive on the next play from four yards out and increased the score to 28-0.
The Rabbs move to 1-0. AMS travels to Liberty Eylau this week to take on the Leopards.
