Lady Bulldogs finish second at Union Grove Tournament
On August 9, Queen City’s volleyball program opened its season against a tough Avery team.
The Lady Bulldogs’ varsity team won set one 25-23 but dropped set two 27-29. QC won set three 25-16 but Avery forced a fifth and final set with a 21-25 score in set four.
The Lady Bulldogs won the set and match with a 19-17 win in set five.
Dori Sasser led QC with 15 service points and Serenity Oden added 13. Lauren Carrell led with 21 kills and Jamecia Cook added 15 kills and three blocks.
QC’s JV team also won, 31-29 and 21-18, with both sets being closely contested. Makenna Hamilton led with 10 service points, Kerian Thomas added six and Macy Granderson had three kills.
On August 11, the Lady Bulldogs’ varsity volleyball team competed in the Union Grove tournament.
In game one, QC beat Jefferson, 25-23, 25-19. Junior, Mallori Stringer led with eight service points, two being aces and freshman Dori Sasser added five points with two being aces.
Junior Lauren Carrell carried the team in kills with six, while junior, Jamecia Cook added three kills and a block.
In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs beat Alba Golden, 25-9, 25-23. Serenity Oden led with six aces and a total of 13 service points and Dori Sasser added six points.
Lauren Carrell was huge with 10 kills, followed by Mallori Stringer with four kills, and Jamecia Cook carried the defense with six blocks, four being solo and setter Mallori Stringer contributed 11 assist in the match.
In the third game, the Lady Bulldogs played host Union Grove. Lauren Carrell carried the team with eight kills, three aces and a total of six service points. Jamecia Cook had six kills, four blocks, two being solo, and three aces with a total of seven service points.
Dori Sasser chipped in nine service points and three kills and Mallori Stringer added 19 assist in the Lady Bulldogs’, 25-20, 25-17 win.
On Aug. 13, the Lady Bulldogs topped Liberty-Eylau in the Union Grove tourney which put them in the championship game against Harmony.
QC beat the Lady Leopards by scores of 25-19 and 25-23. Mallori Stringer had nine service points and Dori Sasser had six.
In the championship game, the Lady Bulldogs lost to Harmony 18-25, 21-25 and finished second overall. Dori Sasser led in serves with seven, Trinity Oden had five kills and Jamecia Cook had four kills and three blocks. Mallori Stringer added 16 assists.
On Aug. 12, Queen City’s JV 1 team traveled to Union Grove for a tournament last weekend.
QC competed very well but came up short in a couple of games.
In the first game, QC played Liberty-Eylau and won the first set was 25-4. L-E won the next two matches 26-24 and 15-8.
Ruby McCasland and Gracie Alexander both led the team with 11 service points.
In the second game, QC played host Union Grove and won both sets 25-13, 25-16. Taylor Ward led the team with 10 service points and Kerian Thomas added nine.
In the third game, the Lady Bulldogs won the first set 25-17 and then fell short the next two 25-12, 15-11. Ruby McCasland led the team with nine service points and Kerian Thomas added six.
Queen City’s varsity volleyball team placed second overall in the Union Grove Tournament.
