Atlanta ISD prepares to welcome students back

Atlanta Independent School District is ready to welcome students back to school on Aug. 10 with multiple events throughout its four campuses.

“The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting and busy time,” Superintendent Jason Harris said. “When our students come back, we want them to know that they’re not only coming to school but to a place where they are surrounded by a staff that will support them, challenge them, and who genuinely care about them. We are more than a school.”

To kick off the year, the community is invited to the annual Meet the Rabbits Pep Rally at 6 p.m. on August 6, in Rabbit Stadium. Come meet the football team, volleyball team, cross country team, soccer team, color guard, band, and cheerleaders. The Big Bad Band from Rabbitland will perform an exhibition and march off.

In addition, there will be watermelon, giveaways, free backpacks, and vendors, such as WIC - of Atlanta, Texas, Community Services of Northeast Texas, Inc., Texas A&M University - Texarkana, and Texas Health Steps Star Program.

The Food Service department is proud to announce that all students will receive free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision. Even students who bring their lunch are encouraged to supplement it with food offered in the cafeteria.

Other campus activities are as follows: Atlanta Primary School and Meet the Teacher - Aug. 8 from 5-6 p.m.

Atlanta Elementary School

Third graders are invited to come “up the hill” for Popsicles with the Principals on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Meet the Teacher - Aug. 8 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Walkin Wednesday will be Aug. 10. Parents are invited to walk their children to their classrooms.

Atlanta Middle School

Sixth Grade Orientation - Aug. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the gym.

Atlanta High School

Schedule pick-up will be from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Aug. 2 for seniors, Aug. 3 for juniors, Aug. 4 for sophomores and Aug. 5 for freshmen.

Freshman Rabbit Camp will be on August 2, from 5-5:45 p.m. in the gym. Parents will have a meeting in the auditorium during this time.
