Robertson earns Life-Saving Award

Amy Robertson, a local Queen City business owner, was recognized by Police Chief Robert W. McGee for helping save a driver’s life who had passed out at the wheel.

According to the press release “local business owner, Amy Robertson was given a Life-Saving Award by the City of Queen City tonight at the monthly City Council meeting. McGee presented the Award to Ms. Robertson due to her recent assistance when a delivery person on Hickory Street had a severe medical issue. Robertson contacted 911 when she saw a delivery driver had driven off the roadway into the yard of a residence. Realizing this was not a normal delivery, Robertson watched and noticed that the driver seemed to be in distress and was slumped over in the vehicle.

“She approached the vehicle to find the driver was hanging from the truck seat with his seat belt still fastened. The driver was incoherent and obviously in distress. Robertson released his seat belt, and he went to the floor. She sat on the floor with the driver holding his head up until Queen City officers arrived. It appeared that the driver had aspirated and was foaming at the mouth. Robertson’s effort allowed the driver to be positioned so as not to strangle from his own body fluids. Officers believed the driver suffered a heat stroke and summoned EMS. Chief McGee was later told that the driver possibly suffered a diabetic problem. We believe had Ms. Robertson not helped the distressed driver, this could have turned out more serious than it did.”

“The City of Queen City wants to thank Amy Robertson for being a concerned citizen and stepping forward when another citizen needed help,” notes the release.
