Choosing rather to suffer

In Hebrews 11:24-28 we find what many look at as a mystery. Moses was raised in the royal palace of Egypt, with all the privileges that that life could offer.

But yet scripture says in verse 24, and 25 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

Affliction is something that even the people of God would like to avoid. So some might think Moses foolish to give up his position.

Again this was a position of prestige and power. Power that would have given him the influence to help the Hebrews if he so desired. He could have possibly have changed the laws to their favor, and made their lives more comfortable.

But God did not want them to be comfortable in that land. He had another land for them. God’s plan was to deliver them. God did not want their hearts attached to Egypt, just as God does not want our hearts attached to this world. God uses the eleventh chapter of Hebrews as an example to us, for we like them are strangers and pilgrims on the earth and seek a country. Hebrews 11:15, 16 and truly if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out of, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

We have the assurance that one day we too will enter in that blessed city if we put our faith in Jesus Christ and the finished work he did for us at Calvary.

Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth them out of them all.

The apostle Paul would say in Romans 8:18 for I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
