Bloomburg taking bids on new City Hall location
In the June 15 Journal-Sun it was officially announced that the City of Bloomburg was accepting sealed bids for a four-person crew that would include demolition and construction of the interior walls of the new City Hall. According to Bloomburg Mayor Delores Simmons, the city of Bloomburg is in process of taking bids to build offices in the newly purchased building that was once the Bloomburg Foods Store and recently Danny’s Steak and Seafood Restaurant.
“The city offices will be in half of the building and the use for the other side has not been decided at this time. Presently our city hall is around 100 years old and in need of repair. For the future, it seemed to be a better choice to purchase or build a new building.”
Simmons also announced that their city park, located behind the new City Hall and presently a pad for playground equipment has been completed. “The construction of the equipment is being supervised by city councilman Melvin Timmons. Completion of playground equipment will be later this summer. Farther plans to establish other structures and activities will be in the near future.”
“Cullin Baker Fair is going to happen this fall on the first Saturday of November as always scheduled,” says Simmons. “Presently talks are in place to start taking booth spaces and get the process underway. The city and fair welcome anyone wanting to participate in bringing the fair back and getting our park established. Bloomburg is proud of its town and would like it to grow and always be a place where the family can feel safe and enjoy its smalltown feel. Bloomburg and the surrounding area are blessed with a great school, wonderful churches, and people that still care.”
