Person of interest captured in camper murders

On March 24 Beauregard Parish Sheriff ’s Office issued an updated statement letting people know that the 5’7” Charles Spraberry was presumed in the area and considered armed and dangerous. According to the social media release Spraberry “was wanted by Texas authorities for his involvement in a double homicide.” According to other reports that double homicide was in “Cass County where two bodies were found in a burned-out camper trailer on March 12.”

It was noted that in the release that “deputies are currently in your area canvassing and searching.” The next day the Parish Sherriff ’s Office issued the release that “Charles Spraberry has been found and is in custody. This was a successful group effort, and we would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Department of Justice - Tyler TX division, DeRidder City Police Department, Vernon Parish Sheriff ’s Office, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff ’s Office, and Louisiana State Police for their resources and manpower to help complete this task safely and successfully.”

According to TexarkanaFYI, “Spraberry allegedly stole a car from a woman at Whiskey River in Texarkana, Arkansas on March 19. From Texarkana, he traveled to South Louisiana where the car was recovered in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. After a two-day manhunt, Spraberry was captured. He will be extradited to Cass County to face multiple charges. Spraberry was released from the Cass County jail on February 24 and was currently out on a $5,000 bond for a sexual assault charge.”

As recounted over the last two issues, “reports came in Saturday March 12, of a lethal fire that killed two adults. According to the investigator, Sabrina Sartor, from the Cass County Sheriff ’s Department, there were two bodies located inside a burned camper trailer. Upon further investigation Sheriff Larry Rowe revealed in a later press release that the two people in the camper had apparent gunshot wounds and were deceased before the camper burned.

The release also revealed it was a male and female in the camper. As of March 28, the Sheriff ’s Department is still waiting on DNA to identify the victims.
