Lady Wildcats win D-Mac Tournament, first district game
Bloomburg’s softball team recently won the D-Mac Tournament in Arkansas after running through a gauntlet of teams.
The Lady Wildcats beat Emmerson 12-2, Foremen 3-2 and Arkansas High 13-6 to claim the title.
Senior Haylee Breedlove was awarded a scholarship in the process.
The tournament was started in 2011 in memory of former Spring Hill, Ark., math teacher, Debra McMaster, who was one of 20 people who died tragically in the Albert Pike flood in 2010.
The longevity and growth of the tournament illustrates the impact Debra had on her community. Those who knew and loved her have established a legacy in Debra’s name that continues to grow and touch the lives of young women a decade later.
This was the 12th year of the tournament with only one cancellation in 2020 due to COVID-19.
In its initial year, the tournament was able to award two scholarships. Now, it has grown to the point that 27 or more young women from the competing teams received scholarships in Debra’s name.
The Lady Wildcats also topped McLeod 11-1 in their first district game of the season.
