Queen City students qualify for state
The MUMS Math and Science teams were busy during winter break competing in two qualifying meets for a chance to compete at the state level.
During the meets, 18 students qualified for state. Many of the team members also placed in the top 10 of their events. The MUMS teams brought home the second place overall trophy at the Spring Hill meet on Feb. 26.
At the Feb. 19, meet at Ore City sixth grade students Jayden Nevins, Landry Blythe, Madison Butler and Gerald Malina qualified for state.
Nevins placed first in number sense and second in general math, Blythe placed seventh in number sense, Butler placed ninth in calculator and Malina placed seventh in science.
Seventh grade students Abigail Bickham, Ryland Durmon, Gabriella Mendoza, Evan Benson and Ariana Robison qualified for state.
Bickham placed fifth in number sense and third in general math, Durmon placed fourth in number sense and sixth in general math, Mendoza placed third in number sense and second in general math, Benson placed sixth in calculator and Robison placed fourth in calculator.
Eighth grade students Makenna Hamilton, Elizabeth Bickham, Dori Sasser, Sadie Dodd and Kyre McKinney qualified for state.
Hamilton placed seventh in number sense, Bickham placed seventh in calculator and third in science, Sasser placed ninth in calculator and Dodd placed tenth in science.
At the Feb. 26, meet where the MUMS teams placed second overall Jayden Nevins placed first in number sense and second in general math, Landry Blythe placed sixth in number sense and eighth in general math and Sara Jones placed fifth in number sense for the sixth grade; Abigail Bickham placed fourth in number sense and first in general math, Ryland Durmon placed third in number sense and fourth in general math, Gabriella Mendoza placed first in number sense and second in general math, Mallory Hamilton placed fourth in calculator, Ariana Robison placed second in calculator and Anna Leigh Young placed third in science for the seventh grade; and Adalyn Tyson placed fourth in number sense, eighth in general math and ninth in science, Elizabeth Bickham placed third in calculator and fifth in science, Dori Sasser placed ninth in calculator and Sadie Dodd placed seventh in science for the eighth grade.
All of these participants qualified for state.
