Lewis Pinkney Sheffield family
Lewis Pinkney Sheffield (born 27 December 1821) married Elizabeth Penny (born 24 June 1837) the daughter of Hardy and Harriett HOOD Penny in 1855. Elizabeth came to Texas from Georgia with her father and five brothers in 1854 following the death of her mother. Lewis and Elizabeth lived on a farm on FM 130 between Carterville and Almira near Linden. Lewis left Elizabeth and moved next door with his son, Jim, until his death on 03 April 1899. Then, Elizabeth moved in with Jim until her death on 03 October 1897. They are both buried at Floyd Hill Cemetery in Cass County. They had eight children:
1. Hardy Wesley Sheffield (born 24 May 1859) shot and killed his girlfriend because she was dancing with someone else the night before, then killed himself. Date of death was 01 February 1890 with burial at Floyd Hill Cemetery in Cass County.
2. Margarette A. “Mary” SHEFFIELD (born 31 October 1851) married Rubin Knox Swinford (born 09 November 1856) on 02 December 1875. Mary died 11 January 1915 and Rubin died 29 November 1947. They are buried at ???? They had three children: Minnie Licenia SWINFORD Perser (born 1 June 1877), Oscar Monroe Swinford (born 08 December 1878), and Ila Mintoria SWINFORD Hanes (born 23 July 1881 ). Licenia married Hurbert B. Perser (born 13 March 1876) on 16 December 1900. They lived in the red brick house beside where Reeder Davis Schindler Funeral Home in Linden currently stands. Licenia lived to celebrate her 100th birthday at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Linden.
They had three children: Lola Izora PERSER Alexander, Paris Hurbert Perser, and Earl Wesley Perser. Oscar married Georgia Anna WESSON (born 16 June 1882) on 24 December 1899. They had four children: Horace H Swinford (born 18 March 1901), Hermon Swinford (born 03 November 1916), Myrtle SWINFORD, and Hardy Ralph Swinford (born 13 September 1908). Hardy died at the age of three on 29 April 1912. Ila married Thomas “Tom” Hanes on 19 November 1899. They raised their four children in Marietta. They were Ottis Hanes, Berah HANES McCord (born 26 February 1905), Naomi Thelma HANES Holt, and Paul T. Hanes (21 November 1913). Berah married Odis McCord and had four children Forrest McCord, Doris McCORD, Pansy McCORD, and Paulette McCORD. Naomi’s children were Anita HOLT and Bobby Holt. Paul married Helen LE-NIOR and raised his three children in Linden. They had Gary Hanes, Larry Hanes (born 1951), and Nelda Kay HANES (born 18 July 1953).
3. Ruffus Pinkney Sheffield (born 30 April 1863) was born deaf. He would tum on the phonograph and put his teeth on the arm so that he could “feel” the music. He never married. He died 06 September 1931 and is buried at Floyd Hill Cemetery.

5. Nora Eldora SHEFFIELD, a twin (born 23 April 1869)
6. Dora Elnora SHEFFIELD, a twin (born 23 April 1869). She died 01 September 1873 and is buried at Floyd Hill.
7. William Henry Sheffield (born 18 June 1872) married Hattie FIND-LEY Friebele, a widow, on December 17 ? They made their home in San Angelo, Texas, and later in Brady, Texas. Henry was a building contractor and realtor. They had three sons, Orvil Sheffield, Olan Sheffield, Ernest Sheffield, and a daughter, Velma SHEFFIELD Lange. Henry is buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Brady, Texas. Dates are not known.
8. Euginia “Gene” Elizabeth SHEFFIELD (born 21 May 1875) married James Henry “Jim” Kirkland (born 10 May 1872). Jim died 17 April 1930 and Gene died 17 January 1961. They are both buried at Corinth. They had seven children: Hershel Kirkland (born 12 November 1892), Ludie Kirkland (born 09 October 1895), Homer Ellis Kirkland (born 05 February 1898), Cleoma Cecil KIRKLAND (born 10 July 1903), Oreda Peral KIRK-LAND (born 06 January 1910), Mary Dalene KIRKLAND Echols (born 08 December 1913), and Russel Pinkney (born 05 February 1898). Hershel married Pearl last name unknown (born 30 April 1907). They had four children Harvey Kirkland (born 11 June 1920), Ruby D. KIRKLAND, Orvis M. Kirkland (born 27 December 1921 ), and Ronnie Kirkland. Hershel died 05 January 1978 while Pearl died 16 June 1986. They are buried at Corinth Cemetery. Ludie died 16 April 1924 and is buried at Corinth. Homer Ellis married Ruby Pearl SMITH. They were the parents of three children:
Winston Earl Kirkland (born 28 September 1927), Jo Ophard KIRKLAND (born 04 February 1926, and James Homer Kirkland. Cleoma married 1) Thomas Jeter “Shot” Taylor (born 21 January 1914). They divorced and she married 2) J. L. Burnley. Cleoma lived on Hwy 8 between Linden and Douglassville. They were the parents of four children: Lewis Ray Burnley (born 18 February 1935) (died 17 December 1996)buried at Corinth, Wanda Helen BURNLEY (born 28 February 1934), Nannie Carrol BURNLEY, and Bennie Burnley.
