Local lifters compete at Region 3 meet

Powerlifters from Region 3 met at Malakoff High School on Mar. 5, to compete for a chance to go to state.

Both divisions three and four were present and had a total of 265 lifters involved.

At the end of the day, Avery Whitlow and Jaden Wells from Atlanta and Cedric Davis from Queen City punched tickets to the state competition.

Atlanta

Avery Whitlow was crowned regional champion in his 123-pound weight class and made it to state with the impressive finish.

Whitlow squatted 370 pounds, bench pressed 190 and dead lifted 390 pounds for a total of 950 pounds lifted.

Jaden Wells made it to state after placing second in the 242-pound weight class.

Wells squatted 555 pounds, bench pressed 365 and dead lifted 565 pounds for a total of 1,485 pounds lifted.

Kyle Gross placed sixth overall in the 181’s with a total lift of 1,205 pounds and Carlos Cortes placed 10th overall in the 308’s with a total lift of 1,170 pounds.

Queen City

Cedric Davis has been number one in Region 3 in his weight class from beginning to end.

Davis was crowned regional champion and punched his ticket to state with an amazing performance as he beat out the second place lifter by 250 pounds, set a personal best overall total and tied the Regional record for dead lift.

Davis squatted 630 pounds, bench pressed 375 and dead lifted 635 pounds for a total of 1,640 pounds lifted.

Rhyen Pope had been in the top 10 of his weight class all season long and finished sixth in the 308’s with a total lift of 1,325 pounds.

Linden-Kildare

Michael Lane turned in an impressive lift on the day as he squatted 380 pounds, bench pressed 175 pounds and dead lifted 365 pounds for a total of 920 pounds lifted. Although he missed out on state by a mere 16

Although he missed out on state by a mere 16 pounds, Lane improved 130 pounds from last year.

State will take place on Mar. 25-26, at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
