Lemuel Daniel Greene family

Lemuel Daniel Greene son of Lemuel and Ann Nancy MERRITT Greene was born in Greene County, Georgia in 1827. He married Pharibee Jane HALL, daughter of Hugh, Jr. and Mary BROWN Hall. Pharibee was also born in Georgia on 13 May 1832. They moved their family and all their belongings to Mississippi and later to Texas to settled in Douglassville. Lemuel died in 1876/7 and his wife died in January 1915 at her son, Pat Henry Greene’s house. They are both buried in the Douglassville Cemetery. They had ten children:

1. Patrick Henry Greene was born in Georgia on 03 June 1851. He married Eliza HOWARD (born May 1858) in 1885. He died 03 June 1851 and Eliza died on 17 March 1934. They are buried in the Douglassville Cemetery along with their children:

Stonewall J. Greene born 13 September 1885 and died 11 June 1928. He was married to Lucretia ASTOR, who was born in Georgia 01 September 1893 and died 05 July 1995; Margaretta GREENE Phelps born 21 June 1889, died 24 January 1955. She was married to R. Lewis Phelps; Lila Thrace GREENE born 09 August 1894 and died O I December 1965; Frances Marion GREENE Kenyan born 21 June and died 10 January 1987 She was married to Grover Cleveland Kenyan. Other known children are Winnie GREENE, Pat Henry Greene, Jr, and Howard Greene.

2. Hugh O ‘Keefee Greene was born in Georgia on 18 September 1854. See Hugh O’Keefee Greene Family.

3. Frances Marion Greene was born in Georgia in 1856. He married Meda SMITH (born 1866) on 03 October 1883. He was known as Heck. At the tum of the century, he had the largest mercantile business in Atlanta. His store covered an entire block across from Alldays with sales reaching over $1,000 dollars a day. He also had a colossal tum of the century home on the corner of Miller and Louise Streets (across from Brooks Hospital). It was a two-story showplace, complete with four fireplaces, second-story parapet, colonnades and bay windows. It was furnished throughout the house with French Provincial furniture and had an iron fence all around the property. When Heck was paralyzed with a stroke, an elevator was installed in the back of the house for him. The property was left to the Methodist Orphan’s Home in Waco which sold it to Texaco who tore the house down in order to build a service station. Holiday Cleaners now occupies that spot. Heck died in 1922 and Meda died in 1949. They had a daughter Annie (born 1886) who married Lupton W. Willis (born 1878). Annie slipped on the floor in 1936, her head hit an andiron in the fireplace, and she died. Lupton followed her in death in 1945. All of them are buried in Pine Crest Cemetery in Atlanta. 4. Mary E. GREENE was born in Mississippi in 1861. She married B. G. Jameson on 06 January 1889. Places of burial are unknown.

5. Ida Blanche GREENE was born in Mississippi on 26 August 1861. She married James Emmett Howe (born 1858). She died 09 September 1885. They had two children an infant daughter born and died on 19 November 1883 and a son, William L. (born 13 August 1885) and died (I 4 September 1885). The three of them are buried in the Douglassville Cemetery. James E. Howe remarried and died in 1944. He is buried in Queen City Cemetery.

6. Claude Greene was born in Mississippi in 1866. He married Abbie OLIVER on 02 October 1889. Claude’s death is unknown, but he is buried in Douglassville along with Abbie. They were parents of Nita GREENE and Bessie GREENE.

7. L. Daniel Greene was born 07 August 1868 in Mississippi. He married Lee Ola JOLLY (born 01 June 1884). Lee Ola died 29 May 1941. Dan died 22 August 1959. They are buried in the Douglassville Cemetery. They had a son Joel “Joe” Lemiel Greene who was born 10 April 1905 and died 11 January 1990. He is also buried in Douglassville Cemetery.

8. George W. Greene was the first child born in Texas on 01 February 1870. He married Emma SPEARMAN (born 04 May 1871) on 08 October 1893. Emma died of blood poisoning on 08 August 1931. He died 27 December 1951. They are buried in Atlanta in Pine Crest Cemetery.

9. Jannie GREENE was born in Texas in 1873 and died young.

10. Stella L. GREENE was born in Texas in October 1876. She married T. S. Granberry on 21 January 1894.
