Runnin’ Rabbs place third at Pine Tree meet
Atlanta’s boys’ track program competed in the Graham Knowles invite on Feb. 25, at Pine Tree High School.
Atlanta was the only 3A school present and both the varsity and JV teams placed third overall.
With rain having soaked the area through the week there were no field events.
Varsity
The varsity squad placed third behind Kilgore and Marshall, but finished ahead of Longview, Hallsville, Pine Tree, Liberty-Eylau and Texas High.
In the 100m dash Ahmani Jackson placed third at 11.46, in the 200m dash Jabranden Wells placed third at 23.40 and Zakyus Jackson placed fifth at 23.67, in the 400m dash Jaquan Robinson placed third at 53.61, in the 800m run Matthew Morin placed sixth at 2:10.38 and in the 110m hurdles Stacy Darty placed fourth at 17.74.
As Head Coach Nick Miller says, “the relays is Atlanta’s bread and butter” and it was on display last week as the Rabbs topped 5A schools in both the 4x2 and 4x4 relays.
The 4x200m relay team of Wells, Jackson, Matthew Cauley and Isaiah Chandler placed first at 1:31.22, and the 4x400m relay team of Wells, Cauley, Chandler and Robinson placed first at 3:33.51.
JV
The junior varsity team placed third behind Pine Tree and Longview, but outpaced Hallsville, Marshall, Texas High, Kilgore and Longview Green.
Markeylin Batton won first in the 100m dash at 11.53, Hudson Hale placed fourth in the 200m dash at 24.51 and third in the 400m dash at 58.02, Carmello Henderson placed sixth in the 200m dash at 25.08, and Chris Swanson placed third in the 800m run at 2:19.40.
Markavion Owens placed second in both the 110m hurdles at 18.98 and 300m hurdles at 46.19, Marquavious Richardson placed fifth in the 110m hurdles at 19.56 and fourth in the 300m hurdles at 48.55 and Dekarvia Range placed sixth at 19.79 in the 110m hurdles.
The 4x100m relay team of Jaymarian Austin, Cooper Swanson, Batton and La’Randion Dowden placed third at 45.19, the 4x200m relay team of Swanson, Henderson, Dowden and Chase Kindred placed third at 1:37.43 and the 4x400m relay team of Kindred, Hale, Henderson and Batton placed sixth at 4:01.84.
