Rabbs vs. PG

What a game to kick off the season.

Atlanta’s baseball team, ranked 3rd in 3A Region 2 and seventh in the state in 3A by THSB, and Pleasant Grove, ranked first in 4A Region 2 and fourth in the state in 4A by THSB, clashed on Feb. 21.

PG is the defending state champs in Class 4A and Atlanta finished last year as a Regional Finalist team. This game was Atlanta’s to win but PG scored nine runs in the final three innings and pulled out a 10-8 win over the Rabbits.

The Hawks put one run on the board in the first inning, but the Rabbs plated three runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

PG wouldn’t score again until later but Atlanta put up four runs in the second inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

PG scored one run in the fifth to make it 7-2 and then unloaded four runs in each of the last two innings to go up 10-8. This was a tough loss for the Rabbs who had a chance to knock off the defending champs and a team that is predicted to repeat or get close to that. Dylan Spears struck out two over three innings and gave up only one earned run. Harrison, Woodruff and McClure each shared time on the hill.

Lady Rabbs - Carthage Tourney

In the next game Atlanta topped Center 11-2. Hodge struck out two in one inning of work and Valarie Mason struck out three in two innings of work.

Tori Clayton smashed a grand slam in the contest and had five RBI’s on the day, Mason had a hit and two ribbies, Sabriiyah Young added a hit and both Cara Taylor and Hannah Wall added RBI’s.

In the game following, Atlanta held off Spring Hill with a 9-6 win. Atlanta was up 9-1 going into the third frame. Jordan Hodge scattered seven hits over three and two thirds with six strikeouts.

Hodge had a double and three RBI’s from the plate, Sabriiyah Young added a double with two ribeyes, Cara Taylor had a couple of hits, Hannah Wall had a RBI single, Tori Clayton added a hit with a ribbie, Allie Jefferson posted a hit, Valarie Mason recorded two hits and Sydni Davis had a hit and two RBI’s.

In the next contest, Atlanta rolled White Oak 7-1 with Valarie Mason giving up two hits and striking out a batter in four innings of work.

Tori Clayton had three hits with a double and three RBI’s, Mason had an RBI double, Cara Taylor had a single and a RBI and both Allie Jefferson and Sydni Davis added singles.

In the final contest the Lady Rabbs fell to Hughes Springs 13-1 as Valarie Mason picked up Atlanta’s lone hit.

Tigers vs. Sulphur Bluff

On Feb. 25, the Tiger’s baseball team thumped Sulphur Bluff 16-0 as four pitchers for Linden-Kildare didn’t allow a single hit.

Trey Phillips led L-K to victory by driving in four runs. Phillips went 3-for-4 at the plate. Phillips was also the winning pitcher as the lefty surrendered zero runs, on zero hits over two innings, striking out four and walking one.

Peyton Foreman, Hugh Tyson and Jonathan Owen all put in work in relief out of the bullpen. L-K opened up scoring in the first inning, when Maysen Lemmon singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. The Tigers blew the game wide open after scoring 11 runs in the second inning.

Jackson Lee, Lemmon, Phillips, Jakyrik Nard, Owen and Asher Wells each had RBIs in the frame. L-K banged out 16 hits with Phillips, Wells, Lee, Nard, Max Belford and Owen each racking up multiple hits.

Lady Tigers vs. Pewitt

Linden-Kildare’s softball team beat Paul Pewitt 11-1 and 13-2 on Feb. 25.

With weather canceling out a stacked Linden-Kildare tournament the Lady Tigers looked to play who they could when given a chance.

In the 11-1 victory over the Lady Brahmas, L-K banged out 18 hits while senior hurler Hayley Mason gave up two hits, one earned run and struck out eight. Ashtin Patterson was on a mission as she raked four hits, which included a double and two homers, and posted six RBI’s.

Kaycee Neville garnered three hits with a homerun and a two RBI’s, Mason added two hits with a double, Zaliyah Mitchell hit a double, both Sophia Hampton and Sidney Hampton added singles, Kyndal Fitts had two hits with a RBI, Allie Smallwood collected two hits and Alivia Carlisle posted two hits with a RBI.

In the 13-2 win, Pewitt scored early to tie the contest at 2-2, but beginning the bottom half of the second L-K put up 11 consecutive runs to put the game away.

Hayley Mason scattered three hits over two innings with two strikeouts and Zaliyah Mitchell scattered five hits over three innings with two K’s.

Alivia Carlisle had two hits with two RBI’s, Allie Smallwood had a hit and a RBI, Allie Watson added a hit with two ribbies, Ashtin Patterson had a hit with two RBI’s, Hayley Mason and Kaycee Neville had singles and Kyndal Fitts had a hit and a RBI.
