Lady Wildcats outlast Newcastle for Area title
Bloomburg’s varsity girls’ basketball team won its eighth consecutive game on Feb. 18, and in the process wrapped up an Area championship.
The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Bobcats of Newcastle, 67-60, and advanced to the regional quarterfinals.
Bloomburg had a slim, 16-13, lead after one quarter of play and held onto a, 36-26, lead at halftime.
Newcastle gained momentum in the third quarter with a 19-8 run, and sliced away at the Lady Wildcats’ lead.
Up just, 45-44, going into the final frame Bloomburg outscored the Lady Bobcats 22-16 to secure the 7-point victory.
Cassie Glasgow poured in 25 points with five steals, Haylee Breedlove put up 19 points with four rebounds and four treys, Jacee Glasgow added 12 points and six boards, Katie Mote had six points, Katlen McKinnie had three points and Kenzie LaDuke had two points.
Bloomburg was 15-of-21 from the charity stripe. Breedlove was 5-for-7 from the line, Jacee Glasgow was 2-for-2 and Cassie Glasgow was 7-for-10.
The Lady ’Cats took on Dodd City in the 1A Regional Quarterfinals at Grand Saline ISD on Feb. 22.
