Atlanta announces new Athletic Director
Tyler Morton was hired last week to be the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Atlanta ISD. Morton was the Defensive Coordinator at Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Ark., before being hired by Atlanta.
Morton, a graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, played both offense and defense during his college career as a fullback and a linebacker and played in two NCAA Division II playoff games.
He has also taught and coached at Texas High School and Greene County schools in Arkansas.
”Coaching and teaching is my calling, or ministry. I have a passion to help young people set and achieve their goals in the classroom and on the field through hard work and perseverance,” Morton said. “You will not find a more loyal, hardworking, and passionate coach than myself. I want to make an impact on the daily lives of kids.”
Morton has been married to his wife, Sarah, for 10 years and has two daughters, Annabelle (8) and Maggie (5).
The Morton family currently lives in Texarkana and plan on moving to Atlanta in the near future.
AISD Superintendent Sidney Harrist said, “Tyler Morton represents a role model for our students. He has high moral standards, excellent character and a very strong work ethic. He will be an excellent addition to the Atlanta Rabbit family.”
Morton’s duties at AISD officially began on Monday, Jan. 24.
