Former Rep. Lavender announces campaign for House District 1

George Lavender, a businessman and former State Representative for House District 1 from 2011 to 2015 announced on December 17 his campaign for the Republican nomination for that same seat, currently held by Representative Gary VanDeaver.

Lavender stated, “We desperately need a representative that will truly represent District 1. Our community deserves someone who will respond to our concerns, answer their constituents’ questions, and will work every day to protect us from the damage being done to the citizens of Texas. We need a true conservative.”

Lavender attended Texarkana Arkansas High School and earned a BSBA in Management from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. He has owned a local business for 37 years.

Lavender is a member and inactive deacon of the First Baptist Church on Moores Lane in Texarkana, Texas. He has also been a Volunteer Youth Coach for 20 years, working with PGYA, the Boys & Girls Club, Dixie League, and USSA.

George is married (43 years) to Jan Timberlake Lavender. They have three children and eight grandchildren.

“Now, more than ever is when we need leaders that will stand up to the storm that is at our front door. I will once again fight for a secure border, fight to eliminate property taxes, fight to protect our water resources and stand up against Federal overreach and mandates that harm our communities and our lives. I have a proven conservative voting record and will return to Austin to fight for the values that our community holds dear,” Lavender said.

With redistricting complete, House District 1 encompasses Lamar, Red River, Bowie, Cass, Morris counties.
