Andrea Lee wins with TKO win over Calvillo
Andrea Lee never wavered in her confidence after receiving the news that her opponent for UFC Vegas 42 was dropping out due to illness.
Lee knows all too well about putting in a fierce training regimen and cutting weight for a fight just to see an opponent have to back out for one reason or another.
In this case it wasn’t long before a new opponent emerged in the form of Cynthia Calvillo.
The fighters went at each other from the get-go. Lee and Calvillo exchanged jabs, uppercuts and kicks in a wild round one. Lee staved off takedown attempts by Calvillo and landed several power jabs and a knee to Calvillo before the round came to an end.
In the second round the fighters came out swinging. Lee knocked Calvillo off her game with knee and body shots, an uppercut and a nasty left hook.
Calvillo got in a shot before Lee went off with a 1-2, uppercut and low kick combo.
Lee may have injured her hand in the fray slightly, but Calvillo’s eye and body took a beating from Lee.
So much that before the third round started, it was announced Calvillo could not answer the bell.
Calvillo’s corner stopped the contest after Calvillo’s right eye was found to be a broken orbital bone.
The end result was a 2-round TKO win for Lee. Lee has now won two straight.
Late in 2019, Lee lost a fight to Joanne Calderwood and followed that up with two consecutive losses in 2020.
When 2021 rolled around Lee was ready to stop the skid and get back to form.
With a new team of trainers and fighters Lee surpassed her old form and took down Antonina Shevchenko in impressive fashion and finished off Calvillo with a flurry of strikes.
Since defeating Jessica Eye back in June of 2020, Calvillo has dropped three straight matches.
