Ransom officially files for judge
Conservative businessman, veteran, and Atlanta Mayor Travis Ransom officially filed paperwork with the Cass County Republican Party for a place on the 2022 Republican Primary Ballot for Cass County Judge. Ransom announced his intent to run two months ago following Judge Becky Wilbanks public announcement that she would not be seeking reelection. Since that time Ransom has visited with numerous civic groups, business leaders, individual stakeholders, and other elected leaders about the future of rural Texas and Cass County specifically.
In his time as Mayor, the city reduced the property tax rate twice, removed over 80 blighted structures, combined departments to save money, ensured a 6-month cash reserve, and reduced per capita debt significantly. Ransom fostered a positive economic development climate resulting in strong economic growth in residential, commercial, and industrial segments.
A staunch private property rights advocate, Travis has spearheaded efforts to oppose the Marvin Nichols Reservoir which violates private property rights and threatens the economy of northeast Texas. Under his leadership, the City of Atlanta passed a resolution opposing the reservoir and provided testimony to the Region D Water Development Board.
A 24-year veteran of the Army Reserve, Ransom also serves as a Command Sergeant Major and in 2020 was called to active duty for service in Afghanistan where he led a formation that included over 400 Soldiers and 87 contractors spread over six countries in the CENTCOM area of responsibility and was award ed the Bronze Star for his service in the closing days of America’s longest war.
An active community leader, Travis serves on the Executive Board of the ARTEX Council of Governments and is a graduate of the Red River Leadership Institute’s inaugural class. He is past president and member of the Atlanta Lions Club where he now serves as zone chair. Ransom has also served on the board at numerous non-profit organizations which positively impact the region. He has been named a distinguished alumnus of both Atlanta High School and Texas A&M-Texarkana.
In his civilian capacity, Travis is an independent insurance agent with Offenhauser & Company where he works with business owners on risk mitigation and risk management. Prior to joining Offenhauser, Ransom served as a legislative aide in the Texas State Senate for eleven years. Travis and his wife Emily live in Atlanta, Texas, have three children and attend First Baptist Church.
