AMS Rabbs split with Bulldogs, eighth grade back-to-back champs

The Atlanta Middle School football program capped off a great season last week versus Jefferson.

The eighth grade group finished as undefeated district champions for the second straight year.

Seventh Grade

In the first quarter, the Rabbs faced a potent Jefferson passing attack. Jefferson scored on its first play from scrimmage and converted the 2-point play to go up 8-0. Atlanta’s drive stalls, but the defense holds strong.

In the second quarter, Atlanta put together another nice drive, but was unable to capitalize. TJ Hamilton had some nice runs. Jefferson added two more scores to go up 24-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Kam Williams forced a Jefferson fumble, picked it up and returned it 40 yards for a score which brought the tally to 24-6.

Jayden Smith intercepted a Jefferson pass on the next drive.

In the fourth quarter, Jefferson added another score, but Atlanta came roaring back with a nice drive. Kaigen Loyd, TJ Hamilton and Liam McKinney had nice runs. Hamilton capped the drive with a 12-yard TD run which brought the final score to 30-12.

Eighth Grade

The eighth grade squad capped off an undefeated season with a 40-8 blowout win over Jefferson.

In the first quarter, Jefferson slowed the game down on the first drive taking nearly six minutes off the clock but didn’t score.

Atlanta took possession and drove it right down the field. Eli Mitchell broke it open on a 40-yard scamper for a score.

The scoreboard read 6-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Luke Martin forced a Jefferson fumble recovered by Derryck Prounh. On the first play Jayden Riley finds Toddy Webster wide open for a 65-yard bomb. Touchdown Rabbs.

Riley completed the 2-point pass to Kayden Price to increase the Rabbs’ score to 14-0.

Jefferson ran out the rest of the half on their next drive.

In the third quarter, the Rabbs received the opening kickoff, and two plays later, Riley connected with Marshawn Woodberry on a screen play.

Woodberry took it all the way for a Rabbit touchdown and the lead was now 20-0.

On the ensuing kickoff, Riley recovered his own onside kick to set the Rabbs up nicely.

Riley kept the ball on a QB scramble and raced 55 yards for the score which pushed the lead to 26-0.

Later in the quarter, Eli Mitchell took a direct snap and took it to the house from 55 yards out.

The score was 32-0 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Rabbs found the end zone one more time as Riley handed the ball off to Kayden Linwood, who handed it to Eli Mitchell, who found a wide open Jayden Riley for another big score.

Kason Linwood ran in the 2-point try to make the score 40-0, Rabbs.

Jefferson tacked on a score during garbage time. The Rabbs won 40-8.

Nate Hernandez, Riley, Prounh and Mitchell stood out on defense.

The Atlanta eighth grade finished the season as back-to-back undefeated district champions.

The Rabbs’ eighth grade team outscored opponents 316-112, averaged 40 points per game on offense, gave up only 14 points per game on defense and compiled an overall record of 15-0-1 over the last two seasons.
