Mighty through God
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 - For though we walk in the flesh (this natural body), we do not war (do battle) after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare (our battle gear) are not carnal, but mighty (powerful) through God, to the pulling down (destruction) of strongholds (arguments, false teachings, anything contrary to God). Casting down (destroying) imaginations (thoughts) and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity (taking it prisoner) every thought to the obedience of Christ.
What does this all mean? What is Paul talking about?
Paul had a battle with the pagans, and with the Judaizers, and some teaching false doctrine. Some were adding to the gospel. But he said we are to take every argument, every false doctrine, every stronghold, captive! And not let it get in our spirit or mind, and start to believe things being taught by others, but to continue in the apostle’s doctrine, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Paul said we are to cast down, pull down, and destroy these thoughts, opinions, arguments, others beliefs, that goes against the knowledge of God.
There will always be someone teaching or speaking things contrary to the word of God, someone who will oppose you, and your stand for the truth, your stand for the true gospel, your stand for Godly principles, holiness, righteousness!
But the weapons that we are to take up and fight with are Spiritual weapons!
Weapons that are Mighty through God!! That is able to destroy every imagination before it has the chance to take root in our mind and heart. This is why Peter said to Gird (bind) up the loins of your mind, be sober and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:3 - bind up the loins of your mind, the fruitful place in our mind that no seed of the enemy is able to take root and grow! One of our weapons is Truth, and we are to have our loins girded with it.
In Romans 1:21, Paul says Because that, when they knew God, (had knowledge of him), they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Being unthankful leads to vain imaginations, foolishness, and darkness!
God said in Genesis 8, after the flood in Noah’s day, that the imagination (thoughts) of man’s heart is evil from his youth.
As Saints of God, we cannot be influenced by this worlds system that goes against God, and still follow Gods truth. We cannot have fellowship with the works of darkness, and stay right with God.
Satan will try to feed you any kind of deception or lie that he thinks you will swallow.
There will be those who will mock and ridicule, persecute you, trouble you,
There’s some who will slander you, cast your name out as evil. There’s the atheist, the agnostic, the former Christian who rails on God. There’s many who would love to see you fail, or fall back into temptation. But we have some powerful weapons that is able to tear down and destroy every stronghold of what others do or teach. The Lord said No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and it’s because his weapons are Mighty!
Ephesians 6:11-18, study what your weapons are, that will help you to stand against the wiles, and strongholds of the devil….God bless.
