Atlanta

Atlanta’s varsity volleyball team has been on a roll.

After losing to Redwater in three sets back in August the Lady Rabbs have swept Daingerfield 3-0, Winona 2-0 and Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill 2-0.

Atlanta also topped Arp 2-1, Pewitt 3-1, Queen City 3-0 and Liberty-Eylau 3-0.

The Lady Rabbs played New Boston on Sept. 21 and will take on DeKalb at home on Sept. 24.

Head Coach Quen Banks had this to say about what she thinks the team needs to work on.

“We need to tighten up our defense as far as covering and having our blockers lined up with hitters,” Banks said.

The Lady Rabbs will be a tough out regardless but working on those things will surely make them a very hard team to overcome.

Queen City

Queen City’s varsity volleyball squad battled rival Atlanta Sept. 14, and lost in three sets in the district opener.

Lauren Carrell had seven kills, one block and two digs; Chyna Stiger had five kills, two aces and five digs;

Jamecia Cook ran the net with a total of five solid blocks for QC and Mallori Stringer added 19 assists, two kills and seven service points.

The JV team beat the Lady Rabbs in two sets.

Madisyn Bailey had four kills and two blocks for the Lady Dawgs; Jacey Cauthorn added four kills and one block and Erica Lavoie chipped in three kills.

After playing Atlanta we need to work on becoming more disciplined with our serve receive and doing what needs to be done to beat specific teams,” Head Coach Brianna Hedrick said. “I have been preaching ‘don’t serve, give free balls or back row attack to Atlanta’s libero, because she is very good defensively’. Unfortunately that is not what we against them, and that along with our serve receive that may have cost us the game.”

It looks like the preaching worked for the Lady Bulldogs’ next game as they beat New Boston 3-0 in its second district clash on Sept. 17.

Lauren Carrell had six kills and five aces and an additional two service points; Chyna Stiger had five kills, three aces and four additional service points; Nyla Harrison had the leading number of service points with a total of three aces and nine service points and Trinity Oden had eight service points, four aces and one block.

M.U.M.S.

On Monday, Sept. 13, the M.U.M.S. Lady Bulldogs’ volleyball teams played Hooks.

The seventh grade A team dominated with a win in two sets by scores of 25-11, 25-19. Mallori Hamilton led the way with 14 points and Abigail Bickham had 10.

The seventh grade B team’s top scorer was Anna Young with eight points and Ariana Robinson had five along with Hannah Blaylock.

The eighth grade A team beat the Lady Hornets in two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-12. Dori Sasser led her team to victory with 13 points and Makayla Jackson helped with five points.

The Lady Bulldogs’ eighth grade B team’s top scorer was Ceonna Johnson with 11 points and Deonna Johnson had three.

Linden-Kildare

Linden-Kildare’s varsity volleyball team played hard in a tough loss in five sets to Maud recently.

That same weekend the JV played in the Paul Pewitt Tournament. The JV team was still looking for their first win, however, each time they step on the court Head Coach Shayne Erwin sees improvement.

The JV team lost in close matches to larger schools in the tournament.

Those players attending were Alissa Hawkins, Lindley Vickers, Clarissa Peterson, Charis Minson, Brooklynne Dalrymple, Zaliyah Mitchell, Triniti Ramsdell, and Laynee Robison.

In the contest against Detroit the varsity squad lost in straight sets and the JV team once again played a close match but lost in two sets.

Top performers for the varsity team were Kaycee Neville at the net and Sophia Hampton on the back row.
