Rabbs fall to Paul Pewitt by narrow score of 36-34

Atlanta and Paul Pewitt both entered last week’s contest searching for its first win.

The Rabbs unleashed a potent rushing attack against the Brahmas, but fell just short of victory as the Bulls escaped with a 36-34 win.

First Quarter

The game was evenly matched throughout.

Pewitt got on the board first at the seven minute mark but missed the PAT and had just a 6-0 lead moving forward.

Nearly three minutes later senior Daniel Hernandez bolted in from six yards out for the Rabbs’ first score of the contest.

He then turned around and nailed the point after and Atlanta was up 7-6 with 4:11 left in the first frame.

The two teams battled each other for the remainder of the quarter but neither put points on the board.

Second Quarter

The second quarter was much of the same as the two teams traded drives.

It wasn’t until junior running back Russel Limbrick blazed into the endzone from 12 yards out that the score changed.

Hernandez hit the PAT and the Rabbs were up 14-6 with just over two minutes left in the first half.

Atlanta’s defense withstood an onslaught of running plays in the last few minutes of the second quarter, but the Brahmas scored again with five seconds left on the clock.

The 2-point try was successful and the game was tied 14-14 going into halftime.

Third Quarter

The third quarter belonged to the Rabbs as Hernandez and La’Randion Dowden posted touchdown runs to put Atlanta up 28-14.

Pewitt scored once in the third frame to pull within 28-22 after a good 2-point try.

Fourth Quarter

The fourth quarter was what one would expect in a slugfest.

Pewitt scored at the 9:50 mark but couldn’t advance the score after its 2-point try failed.

The Bulls scored again at the seven minute mark on a dagger to the heart pick-6.

The 2-point try was good and Pewitt went up 36- 28.

Atlanta pulled within two points after Dowden scored from seven yards out at the 3:40 mark.

The missed 2-point conversion was a big stop for Pewitt as the score ended up 36-34.

QB Justin Pierce ended the night with 30 passing yards, Dickerson had 61 rushing yards, Hernandez had 84 yards on the ground with two TDs, Dowden added 79 yards and two scores and Limbrick had 26 yards rushing with a TD.

Defensively Xavier Nash had 22 tackles with 11 of those being solo, Adrian Kennington had 11 tackles, Mike Banks had 10 tackles, Limbrick had seven and Chris Banks posted seven.

The Rabbs travel to Gilmer this week to take on the Buckeyes.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
