The Lady Bulldogs came up short in four sets.
Trinity Oden led with eight kills, four blocks, one ace and nine additional service points, Lauren Carrell had eight kills, four aces and an additional eight service points; Mallori Stringer added four kills, three aces, seven additional service points and 30 total assists, Jamecia Cook had six kills and two blocks and
Chyna Stiger added four kills, three aces and an additional seven service points.
Head Coach Brianna Hedrick had this to say about the team so far.
“I feel that the girls have shown me nothing but their best during practice and games. Even though when we are losing it doesn’t always seem like it, they really do give me their best at every moment they can, physically and mentally,” Coach Hedrick said. “Since the first day, our focus has been on serve, receive and defense. My philosophy is to out-hustle the other side, and give them the opportunity to make a mistake as much as possible. The girls have done very well progressing with serve receive and defense.”
“Our mental game is what needs the most work right now. It is hard as an athlete to pick your head up when the other team’s fans are in your ear, when you’re not at your home gym or when you make mistake after mistake,” Coach Hedrick added. “When the girls get down in their heads I have told them since day one ‘it is your job to find the good in every situation. Every point, every play something good happens that may not be real easy to see. Harp on that and lift each other up. It is my job to find the bad and fix it. Don’t worry about the bad, find the good and run with it’”.
“I don’t know how that started but it seems to really help them. The seniors are also recognizing that this is a much younger team, and a freshman’s mental capacity for making mistakes during a varsity volleyball game, is much different than a senior’s. So they are stepping up to help,” Coach Hedrick remarked. “I have an extremely young squad. As the district approaches (very fast might I add), we are transitioning from learning how to set up defenses and learning plays, to putting those into action consistently. I expect the girls to continue and be disciplined on the essential parts like serve receive and serving. It is time to start focusing on the offensive side of volleyball and get that rolling so we can be prepared for district.”
JV The junior varsity squad topped L-E in three sets.
