Atlanta
Jairy Medina is the 2021 Valedictorian for Atlanta High School with a GPA of 4.0.
Jairy is the daughter of Rafael Medina and Teresa Ruiz.
Some of her high school highlights include: going to regionals in mixed doubles’ tennis her senior year, finishing dual-credit Biology with an A average during the pandemic and seeing her brother graduate top three of his class in her freshman year.
Her academic and extracurricular activities plus awards received were: the Superintendent’s Award, All-State Academic Excellence Award, maintaining her valedictorian spot for three years, earning a chance to compete at regionals in cross country twice and earning a chance to compete at regionals in tennis once.
Jairy earned the UNT Excellence Scholarship, the Emerald Eagle Scholarship, the STEM Scholarship and the All-State Academic Excellence Team Scholarship.
Jairy plans on attending the University of North Texas and getting a BA in Biology. Her ultimate goal is to go to medical school and become a trauma doctor.
Colin Morris is the 2021 Salutatorian for Atlanta High School with a GPA of 3.94.
Colin is the son of Joel and Alisa Morris. Some of his high school
Some of his high school highlights include: going to state for Student Council, going to the fourth round of baseball playoffs and getting COVID the first week of school.
His academic and extracurricular activities plus awards received were: UIL regionals twice, varsity baseball and football and the TASSP Award.
Colin earned the Presidential Scholarship from Texas Tech University, the VOD Scholarship and the KPYN Scholarship.
Colin plans attending Texas Tech University and majoring in International Affairs.
Queen City
Claire Bates is the 2021 Valedictorian for Queen City High School with a weighted GPA of 5.611 and unweighted GPA of 4.0.
Claire is the daughter of Curt and Kendra Bates.
Some of her high school highlights include: being selected President of the National Honor Society, being named Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce Youth of the Year in 2020 and chosen to be a Senior Facilitator for Rotary Youth Leadership Award.
Her academic and extracurricular activities plus awards received were: Outstanding Student Award – Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness, Algebra II Honors, Spanish II, Pre-calculus Honors, All A’s all four years, Fighting Bulldog Award for Cross Country and Volleyball, Second Team All-District Volleyball, District Golf Champion and Regional Qualifier in both Golf and Cross Country.
Claire earned the Eastern Cass County School Retirees Association Scholarship, the Queen City Alumni Woodley Scholarship and the Jackie Icenhower Memorial Interact Scholarship.
Claire plans to attend Texas A&M University where she will major in Interdisciplinary studies for middle grades math and science with a minor in coaching. She hopes to become a middle school math teacher and coach.
Mallory Abbitt is the 2021 Salutatorian for Queen City High School with a weighted GPA of 5.571 and unweighted GPA of 4.0.
Mallory is the daughter of Meghann and Jesse Clayton.
Some of her high school highlights include: being selected to her local American Legion to attend Texas Bluebonnet Girls’ State and being elected Mayor of her city, having the privilege to serve as Vice President of Student Council and Historian of the National Honor Society and never making below an A on essays in Henrico’s class.
Her academic and extracurricular activities plus awards received were: Outstanding Student Award in English I Honors, Outstanding Student Award in DC Psychology, Outstanding Student Award in AP English III, Outstand ing Student Award in DC History 1301 and 1302, Outstanding Tech Award at One Act Play UIL in 2018, 2020 and 2021, A Honor Roll all four years, Regional Qualifier in Girls’ Varsity Cross Country 2017, Texas Bluebonnet Girls’ State participant and Mayor 2020, Vice President of Student Council and Historian of National Honor Society.
Mallory earned the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship - $14,000 a semester for a total of $112,000 and the Domino FCU Scholarship - $1,000.
Mallory plans to attend the University of Alabama where she will double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice on a pre-med track in hopes of becoming a forensic psychiatrist.
McLeod
Keldyn Schubert is the 2021 Valedictorian at McLeod High School with a 3.98 GPA.
Keldyn is the son of David and Casey Schubert.
After graduation Keldyn plans to major in education and minor in math, while playing college basketball. Keldyn’s activities are STUCO, National Honor Society, cross county, tennis, track and basketball.
Keldyn qualified for state in track where he placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles. He also broke the basketball assist record for all divisions in Texas.
Jacey Finlayson is the 2021 Salutatorian for McLeod High School with a 4.0 GPA.
Jacey is the daughter of Bubba and Carolyn Finlayson. After graduation, Jacey plans to attend
Texarkana College on the Presidential Scholarship. She plans to continue her education at Texarkana College in their nursing program.
During high school, Jacey has been active in softball and
Spanish.
