GET READY FOR SUMMER: New programs at Library

Atlanta Public Library is gearing up for several Summer programs this year starting in June and July, including their annual Summer Reading Program, an adult Summer Book Club, and a sewing class for ages ten and up.

The Summer Reading Program will be in-person this year. It will begin on June 5 and run through July 24. On Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. there will be a segment called Wild Things Zoofari: Mammals. Then, every Monday there will be an in-person story time at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, for Pre-K through first grade that will be 30 minutes each. Wednesdays between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. there will be a come-and-go craft session for second to sixth graders. Every Thursday, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., seventh to twelfth graders can enjoy a creative writing class. The Summer Reading Program will close on Saturday, July 24 with a segment called Wild Things Zoofari: Reptiles at 10:00 a.m.

An adult Summer Book Club will start Thursday, June 10 from 2:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m. and meet every Thursday through July 22. The June book pick will be The Trial of Lizzie Borden by Cara Robertson and the July book pick will be When the Stars Go Dark by Paula McLain. Books will be provided. Readers are advised not to read the books beforehand, as there will be discussion time during the meetings. Readers are also not required to attend both months, but can choose which book they find interesting and attend those meetings for the month.

Finally, the Nimble Thimble’s sewing class will take place Tuesday, June 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This class is for ages ten and up and sign-up is required, with only ten spots available. Those wanting to attend are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine, however a few will be available. The project and fabric will be provided.

If there are questions about any of the programs, you can call the library at 903-796-2112 and ask for Randi Strutton.
