Daimion Collins continues to shine

Atlanta High School’s Daimion Collins has had a whirlwind senior year.

All of his hard work, dedication and determination have culminated to this moment in time.

In October of 2020 the talented baller whittled down a list of several college suitors and chose to sign with Kentucky.

When you think about college basketball you can’t look past Kentucky, UCLA, North Carolina, Duke and Kansas.

Collins garnered enough attention from three of those blue-blood programs and I’m certain Duke and UNC would have offered too if he had waited to announce later on in the 2021 school year.

The 6-foot-10 basketball specialist helped the Rabbits’ basketball squad go 19-5 overall, 12-0 in district play and get to the Class 3A regional semifinals.

He averaged 35.2 points, 14.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 6.2 blocks per game for the Rabbs this season.

Recently Collins was selected to play in the Hoops for Autism game which is an all-star showcase that raises money at the gate and in raffles which go to the Center for Autism in Dallas.

Collins was chosen to represent Atlanta on the North team and in just a half of play scored 30-plus points, grabbed eight boards and had eight blocks.

In February the big-man was one of just 24 players nationwide to be selected to the 44th annual boys McDonald’s All-American team.

Although the game wasn’t played due to the ongoing pandemic, Collins earned yet another amazing honor.

They don’t hand out honors like happy meals; you have to earn it and Collins has done just that.

His hard work also netted him MaxPreps Texas High School Basketball Player of the Year honors.

Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Each state’s MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 13.

It is possible more accolades will follow before he graduates and moves to The Bluegrass State.

His numbers speak for themselves and so does his play.

No matter how you spin it Kentucky is getting a gem from a gym in Atlanta, Texas.
