Jinx the Pig!
Jinx the pig was bought at the Cass County Livestock show in November. He was the grand champion hog! Many people were looking forward to buying him at the locker plant, but we told them he was going home with us to live out his life to the fullest!
Since bringing Jinx home, he has bonded with our other pig rescues - all who have different stories and look completely different. Jinx is the most loving pig; all of the other smaller pigs love to jump on him and use hit fat body as a trampoline or a pillow to lay on!
Jinx is the proud homeowner of 22 Piggy Way. Yes, you heard that right. Our pig has his own house and It is the cutest thing in the world to see how he truly uses it like a human would! He loves to stand on the front porch and observe his land and his neighbors! He also goes in his house every night to sleep.
Jinx is a big proponent of eating his fruits and veggies and having a balanced diet. Jinx LOVES watermelon. That is his absolute favorite food!
PIG FACTS:
- The domestic pig, often called swine or, hog, is a large, domesticated, even-toed ungulate. It is variously considered a subspecies of the Eurasian boar or a distinct species. The domestic pig’s head-plus-body length ranges from 35 to 71 inches, and adult pigs typically weigh between 110 and 770 pounds, with well-fed individuals often exceeding this weight range.
- Pigs are smart! Their intelligence is higher than a dog’s, some primates and even young human children. When they are trained piglets can learn their names at just two to three weeks old. They can learn to respond when called and learn tricks faster than dogs. - In their natural state, pigs are very clean animals. They keep their toilets far from their living or feeding areas.
- They are much more tolerant of colder temperatures than heat. Pigs have no sweat glands so they can’t sweat. This is why they enjoy being in mud to keep themselves cool.
- Pigs have excellent memories. They can remember things for years and can recognize and remember objects!
- Pigs like to get massages, enjoy scratching themselves on trees, relaxing while listening to music, and playing with enrichment toys.
- Pigs are incredibly social. They form close bonds with each other and other animals. To keep warm, pigs may cuddle up with one another.
