M.U.M.S. students solve agricultural problems

Gifted and Talented students at Morris Upchurch Middle School worked through the Engineering Design Process to help solve a couple of real life problems last week.

They identified the problem, brainstormed ways to solve it, designed a contraption, built and tested it and presented their solution to the class.

Group one tackled the hog problem in Cass County and designed a trap to lure feral hogs with food, capture their image on a camera, and administer a tranquilizer by spray mist when hogs were identi fied. Group two took on the invasive aquatic plants overtaking Caddo Lake and created SAM (Salvinia Abstracting Machine) to remove Giant Salvinia from Caddo Lake.
