Freeman hired to be Linden-Kildare’s new AD/HC

Linden-Kildare ISD hired Kyle Freeman as its new Athletic Director/Head Football Coach last week.

Freeman, originally from Snyder, Texas, recently served as Co-Defensive Coordinator at Edna ISD.

Before that job he was the AD/HFC at Ozona ISD where he took a struggling Lions’ football program and turned it around for the better.

Prior to his arrival the Lions had not won many playoff games in several seasons, but did in all four of his seasons there.

In his six years as a head coach (25 years coaching in all), Freeman is with three district titles and two trips state quarterfinals (both of those com Bruni ISD).

During his two years at Bruni, Fre was 22-5 and led the Badgers to the quarterfinals both years.

Prior to Freeman, Bruni had won three playoff games.

He was named Coach of the Year fo trict 16-2A Division II for 2014 and and Old Coach Rivals Network 2A Co the Year in 2014.

Freeman is a 1990 graduate of Angelo State University, where he received a track scholarship and won the 1989 NCAA Division II National Championship in shot put. He also played football for the Rams and was named the NCAA Division II All-American Defensive End, which got attention from pro scouts. In 1991 the Houston Oilers drafted him in the seventh round as an outside linebacker. He then played for the Los Angeles Raiders in 1992-1993 before an Achilles tendon injury ended his career. After his NFL career, Freeman attended Texas Tech University where he was a graduate assistant coach.

He spent 12 seasons as a defensive coordinator in his hometown of Snyder and then Hebbronville High School before his head coaching job at Bruni.

Freeman was inducted into the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor in 2003 and the Snyder High School Hall of Honor in 2011.

Freeman and wife, Shannon, have six children.
