No. 2/6 McLeod 89, Clarksville 31

McLeod inched closer to securing back-to-back district championships after an, 89-31, torching of Clarksville Jan. 26.

The Longhorns left no doubt as they posted a, 53- 14, lead at the break.

Casey Smith had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Keldyn Schubert added a double-double of his own with 15 points and 13 assists, Silas Murdock had 14 points and eight boards, Nathan Parker had 11 points, Nathan Parker had 11 points, Nos Gryder had 10 and Tyler Williams had nine.

No. 19 McLeod 75, Detroit 52

McLeod’s Lady Longhorns’ basketball squad played a make-up game against Detroit Jan. 25, and improved its district record to 10-0 after a, 75-52, shellacking of the Lady Eagles.

The Lady ’Horns stormed out to a, 22-4, first quarter lead and posted a, 34-22, lead at the break.

A 41-30 run in the second half put the icing on the cake for McLeod (14-4, 10-0).

Gracie Lance led the way with 24 points, eight boards and seven steals, Kaitlyn Cross added 13 points, Ella Lambeth posted 12 and Stormy Johnson had 10.

The JV team had no problems with the Eagles as McLeod rolled, 32-2. Peyton Johnson led McLeod in scoring with 10 points.

No. 19 McLeod 55, Clarksville 34

The Lady Longhorns battled Clarksville Jan. 26, and ran its district record to 11-0 after topping the Lady Tigers, 55-34.

McLeod (15-4, 11-0) outscored Clarksville in every quarter.

The Lady ’Horns bolted out to an, 18-3, lead after one quarter of play and had a, 29-11, at the half.

Sibbie Comer led all scorers with 12 points, Kaitlyn Cross added 10, Cary May had eight, Stormy Johnson posted eight and Ella Lambeth had seven points.

No. 14 Atlanta 79, Queen City 32

Atlanta creeped closer to an undefeated district run as they topped county rival Queen City, 79-32, Jan. 26.

Daimion scored 23 points, had nine boards, seven assists and six blocks, Alex Boston added 23, Kenyen Washington posted nine, Keyshawn Easter eight, Terunte Neal six, Caleb Hamilton four, Kameron Dickerson three and Stacy Darty three.

No. 14 Atlanta 84, Hooks 59

Atlanta dominated Hooks Jan. 29, at home and won in a big way, 84-59.

Kentucky commit Daimion Collins rolled up a double-double with 35 points and 12 rebounds, Keyshawn Easter had 14 points with four boards, Kenyen Washington added 14 points with six rebounds, Kameron Dickerson had seven points, Caleb Hamilton six, Alex Boston five with 14 assists and Andrew Boston swished a trey for his three points on the night.

Atlanta 63, Queen City 61

Another epic Cass County battle between Atlanta and Queen City wrapped up Jan. 26, with the Lady Rabbits coming out victorious, 63-61.

The win avenged a, 53-42, loss to the Lady Bulldogs back on Dec. 22.

Kym Sheppard poured in 21 points for Atlanta, Jennifer Easter added 20, Destinee Wells had six and Tianna Lawson had six.

Lauren Carrell led QC with 15 points, Nyla Harrison added 11, Hannah Fitts 10, Serenity Oden nine, Alex Larry seven, Erica Lavoie five, Jamecia Cook two and Chloe Phillipi two.

Atlanta 52, Hooks 47

The Lady Rabbs downed Hooks, 52-47, Jan. 29. Kym Sheppard had 20 points, Sabriiyah Young 12, Jennifer Easter six, Tianna Lawson six and Jadayah King four.

Linden-Kildare 62, James Bowie 52

Linden-Kildare’s varsity boys’ basketball team overcame a tough test from James Bowie Jan. 22, and won, 62-52.

L-K had the upper hand after outscoring the Pirates, 17-13, in the first quarter, but the two teams went into halftime tied at 22.

Things heated up in the second half but L-K only had a 2-point lead going into the final quarter.

Up just, 31-29, at the beginning of the final frame L-K come out blazing from beyond the arc and hit five treys out of 11 attempts.

The Tigers doubled its point total in the fourth quarter alone as L-K posted 31 points and scratched its way to victory.

Chase Bynum scored 21 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, Mason Johnson added 20 and Puff Peters secured his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 points.

The win brought the Tigers to 14-5 and 6-3 in district. As of this article L-K has a secure hold on third place with the regular season winding down.

M.U.M.S. 31, Red Lick 11

Morris Upchurch Middles School’s eighth grade girls’ basketball team beat Red Lick, 31-11, Jan. 28.

Laterika Jackson led all scorers with 10 points.
