Glory to God in the Highest
Luke 2:13 - And suddenly there was with the angels a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
What had just happened to cause all this uproar?
What was going on in the fields around Bethlehem? Why were angels rejoicing and praising God?
Why were shepherds in a hurry to get to Bethlehem when just a little while before that, they were minding their own business, watching over their flock, the sun had set, the stars were shining bright, the light of the moon shone down on the fields.
All was calm, all was silent....But all that was about to change, an Angel appeared out of nowhere....and the glory of the Lord, so much brighter than the moon and stars, shone around them so bright that the shepherds were fearful!
V. 10-12 - And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you, ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Now we know the reason for all the excitement! All the haste!
All the glory of God shining down, the heavenly host in praise and worship!
For the Angel proclaimed “For unto you is born a Savior, which is Christ the Lord!”
Good tidings of great joy for all the world, A Savior has been born! On earth, Peace, good will toward men, a Savior has been born!
The sign that was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign, behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.
Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgement and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Luke 1:32 - He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there should be no end.
The excitement that broke the stillness of that night so long ago, can still be felt in the hearts of men today, as we, like the shepherds of old, make haste to find the one whom the Angel proclaimed to be the Savior, which is Christ the Lord! Will you search for him? If you dare to try, you will surely find him! Glory to God in the Highest! God bless.
