Hughes Springs man arrested on sexual assault charge

A Hughes Springs man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was making a delivery to his home.

Timothy Jan Leftwich, 59, was arrested by Cass County Sheriff ’s deputies and charged with second-degree sexual assault.

According to the arrest affidavit, investigators were called to an emergency room in Texarkana Nov. 22 in response to a sexual assault. The victim told investigators that Leftwich lured her inside of his home, sexually assaulted her then let her leave.

The victim, a delivery driver who was working in Hughes Springs, said she placed a package on Leftwich’s doorstep, rang the doorbell and walked back to her work van. Upon returning to her vehicle, Leftwich poked his head out of the door and said “hey, you got a sec?”

Assuming Leftwich had a package for pickup, the victim walked back to the door which was not closed all the way. After waiting for Leftwich to return, she knocked on the door after which Leftwich yelled for her to come in. The victim entered the home but did not close the door completely.

According to the affidavit, the victim saw Leftwich “speed walking” toward her wearing only boxers. The victim claimed that Leftwich then pushed the door closed and locked it with a deadbolt.

The victim alleges that Leftwich then sexually assaulted her and let her leave.

Investigators served a search warrant Nov. 23 at Leftwich’s home and were able to verify details about the home explained by the woman.

Video from the woman’s delivery vehicle verified the victim’s vehicle was at the location for eight minutes, but investigators were unable to view neither the victim nor Leftwich.

Leftwich was arrested on Nov. 25 and has posted a $50,000 bond.

Leftwich has two prior arrests in Morris County for which he plead guilty in 1989 to the charge of harassing communication by telephone, a Class B Misdemeanor, and placed on Deferred Adjudication probation for six months.

In 1993, Leftwich was convicted of harassment, a Class B Misdemeanor, and received a suspended 30-day jail sentence and six months of probation.
