Atlanta Middle School Rabbits dominate Jefferson Bulldogs to cap off a stellar football season with the district crown

Seventh grade - Atlanta 35, Jefferson 22

First Quarter

Jefferson scored on its first play from scrimmage and converted the two-point try to make it 8-0 early on. The Rabbs would answer quickly after a nice completion from Jayden Riley to Marshawn Woodberry for 13 yards.

Riley punched the ball into the end zone on the very next play from 36 yards out. Kayden Linwood ran in the 2-point play to make it 8-8.

On the next Bulldog drive the Rabbs forced a fumble recovered by Irieon Reynolds. Riley would score two plays later easily from 36 yards out. Jefferson gave the ball back to the Rabbs in their own territory by coughing up the ball yet again, this time recovered by Logan Groce.

On the very next play Riley finds Toddy Webster who made a tremendous catch in the end zone for a 26-yard touchdown pass. Riley added the 2-point try to bring the score to 20-8.

Second Quarter

The Rabbs defense held again and on the ensuing drive the Rabbs would strike again with Riley pulling down a high snap and scampering 41 yards into the end zone.

The score would remain 26-8 at the half.

Third Quarter

Riley picked up the opening kickoff on the bounce and took it in for the score but an illegal block would negate the play and push the Rabbs back to start the drive.

It would not take long for the Rabbs to score again though. Riley took the ball around the right end, sliced back and took it in 58 yards for yet another score. Riley also added the PAT kick to bring the score to 35-8.

Fourth Quarter

Jefferson added two scores late in the game to bring the final to 35-22.

Riley finished the night with seven carries for 191 yards and four scores. Other standouts were Luke Martin and Tylton Surratt. The Rabbs’ capped off an undefeated season (8-0).

Eighth grade - Atlanta 41, Jefferson 0

First Quarter

The Rabbs struggled to get going on offense early but the Rabbs’ defense played stingy. Late in the quarter the run game finally got going with nice runs from Jamarion Austin and BJ Edwards to set the Rabbs up in Jefferson territory.

Second Quarter

On the first play of the new quarter Easton Owens fired a nice pass to Asher Wells who outran the defense for a 39-yard touchdown. The score was 6-0 after a failed two-point try.

After a nice defensive stop, the Rabbs run game got going again with nice runs from Edwards and Boosie Johnson to push the Rabbs into Jefferson territory.

Jamarion Austin would finish off the drive by exploding around the right end and taking the ball in for six from 44 yards out.

Johnson added the 2-point run to make it 14-0.

After yet another defensive stand, the Rabbs would set up at their own 35-yard line. Markeylin Batton took the direct snap and took the ball into Jefferson territory down to the 32-yard line.

The next play Owens finds Wells again, who made a leaping catch and waltzed into the end zone. The score was 20-0 at the half in favor of the Rabbs.

Third Quarter

After a great defensive series the Rabbs started their drive just shy of midfield.

On the first play of the drive Batton picked up a bad snap, avoided the official, broke several tackles and took it all the way in for another score from 56 yards out.

The Rabbs led 26-0 at that point.

Peyton Harrison intercepted a Jefferson pass before the quarter ended and took it all the way for the pick-6 from 40 yards out.

Juan Campos converted the PAT to bring the score to 33-0.

Fourth Quarter

In the final frame it was same song, different verse as the Rabbs’ defense continued to play lights out, setting up the offense with great field position yet again.

The Rabbs put together another nice drive, this time capped off with a 9-yard touchdown run from Sye Stroman.

Kheaton Kinney took the direct snap and skated in to bring the score to 41-0.

That would cap the scoring for the night with a running clock.

Other standouts on the night were DC Range who had an interception, Stroman, Kinney, and Landon Johnson who had 15 tackles.

The Rabbs eighth grade finished the year 7–1 overall and 6-0 in district play. The Rabbs have captured the district crown in back-to-back seasons.
