Free meals available to Queen City students
The Queen City Independent School District announced last week that its school board approved a request to serve all district students, ages 0-18, free meals to begin Monday, Nov. 2.
According to the district’s Facebook page, the Trump Administration through the United States Department of Agriculture, announced it is allowing free meals to be available to all children who are ages 0-18 until the end of the 2020- 2021 school year as part of the administration’s “commitment to ensuring these children have access to nutritious food as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“As beneficial as this will be for the students and families of Queen City ISD, please keep in mind that the district MUST continue to collect the Application for Free or Reduced Priced Meals. The information collected on these forms is necessary not just for the Food Service Department but for the entire district.”
The school will need the form completed for any new enrollments, and families with economic changes such as a reduction in hours or income or an increase in household members that could change their student’s status from paid to reduced/free or from reduced to free will need to submit a new application.
The school is required to perform the verification process in which a percentage of approved applications is reviewed to verify the information provided.
