AMS football teams defeat Sabine
In the seventh-grade contest during the first quarter Sabine went down the field and scored to make it 6-0 early.
Atlanta would answer quickly on the ensuing drive on a 68-yard scamper from Jayden Riley. Chence Plattenburg added the 2-point to make it 8-6.
Early in the second quarter Riley flipped a screen pass to Plattenburg and he took it 37 yards inside the Sabine 5-yard line.
Two plays later Kayden Linwood skates in from five yards out. Riley would pick up a bad snap on the two-point try and make an impressive run to make it 16-6.
After an impressive defensive stand, Riley received a Cardinal punt and took it down the right sideline from 63 yards out to make it 22-6 Rabbs.
Riley wasn’t done there, later in the second he caught another punt on the run and took it all the way again to push the score to 28-6.
Just before the half, Riley hit pay dirt again, this time on a quarterback keep, breaking a couple tackles and scoring from 54 yards out. The score was 34-6 at the half.
In the third quarter Marshawn Woodberry opened the half with a 60-yard dart down the sideline to set the Rabbs up in the red zone.
Two plays later, Linwood scored from 13 yards out which made the score 40-6.
Sabine added two late scores in mop up time, to make the final score 40-20 Rabbs.
Atlanta’s seventh grade team moves to 4-0 on the season. Jayden Riley finished the day with six carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns and two punt return TD’s. Other standouts include Toddy Webster, Remington Clayton, Cullen Duhon and Tyson Blaylock.
Eighth Grade
The eighth-grade game would prove to be a good one, as undefeated Sabine came to town.
In the first quarter, Sabine received the opening kickoff, and put together a nice drive, which ended on a nice interception from cornerback Braylen Rowe.
A few plays later, Markeylin Batton skated around the right end for a 48-yard touchdown run.
Easton Owens completed the two-point play to Asher Wells to make the score 8-0.
Sabine would answer quickly on the ensuing kickoff, as they took it all the way for a touchdown to bring the score to 8-6.
In the second quarter, and after a Rabbit turnover in their own territory, Sabine would take advantage and take the lead 12-8.
The Rabbs answer on the next drive as Owens found Wells wide open for a 45-yard strike. Landon Johnson added the 2-point play to make it 16-12 Rabbs.
With momentum on their side, Atlanta recovered an onside kick to get the ball back around midfield. Jamarion Austin would house it on the first play but it was negated by a holding call.
The very next play, Batton caught a screen pass from Owens, reversed field, and took it all the way for a score from 43 yards out.
Wells caught the 2-point pass to make it 24-12 Rabbs.
After a nice defensive stand. The Rabbs would set up in Sabine territory.
After a nice run from Jamarion Austin, Batton would score his third touchdown of the day, running over a defender to get into the end zone from 13 yards out.
This pushed the score to 30-12 in favor of the Rabbs.
The Rabbs suffered another mental lapse on the kickoff and Sabine would answer with another kickoff return for a touchdown. The two-point try was good making it 30-20 at the half.
It was a defensive battle during the third quarter, but on the opening playing of the fourth quarter Brandon Edwards put the Rabbs on the board again from 16 yards out.
The score read 36-20 with time left in the game.
Sabine would make a comeback after a Rabbit turnover, scoring twice late in the game but the Rabbs held off the comeback on a beautiful sack on fourth down by Jamarion Austin.
The Rabbs won the game 36-34.
