Recap: Bulldogs run record to 3-0 with wins over L-K, Union Grove, Quitman

Queen City’s varsity football program got off to its best start since 2013 when it went 3-0 after beating county rival Linden-Kildare, Union Grove and Quitman.

Actually the Bulldogs had back-to-back 3-0 seasons by also going 3-0 in 2012.

QC had a really good chance to go 4-0 for its best showing since 1999 when the team went 5-0, but had to cancel its week four game against Frankston.

Queen City 14, Linden-Kildare 0

Not only did the Bulldogs beat its county rival, but QC held L-K scoreless and claimed the Cass County Clash hammer in the process.

The 14-0 win pushed QC’s record to 1-0.

Quarterback Alex Shelton scored the first touchdown of the season after bolting 16 yards into the endzone, and then Shelton hit Damir Rascoe for a 43-yard strike later in the contest.

Jeremiah Drayton posted 36 yards on the ground and Shelton added 27 yards rushing with 66 passing yards.

Queen City 18, Union Grove 14

The Bulldogs met up with the kings of the jungle as they faced off against the Union Grove Lions in the second game of the year.

In this instance the Bulldogs claimed the throne with an 18-14 win.

Alex Shelton put the Bulldogs on the board first as he waltzed into the endzone from 32 yards out.

Shelton then connected with Josh Davis on a 50- yard bomb for another score.

The Lions put points on the board before the half, but QC held on to a 12-8 lead going into halftime.

The Bulldogs scored again in the third frame when Shelton hit Damir Rascoe on a 65-yard pass play.

Union Grove pulled within four again late in the third and attempted to pull off a comeback in the fourth, but a stout stand by the Bulldog defense preserved the victory on Homecoming night.

Queen City 65, Quitman 13

In week three QC got into a Bulldog fight with the Quitman Bulldogs and came home with a crushing 65-13 win.

There was plenty of scoring in this one and it all began with Alex Shelton punching it into the endzone from 10 yards out.

That score was followed up with an 8-yard touchdown by Kieran Droddy and a 70-yard touchdown strike from Shelton to T’Angelo Neal.

The second quarter scores came via Remington Gardner on a 52-yard pass to Damir Rascoe, and an indentical 52-yard strike from Shelton to Rascoe later in the quarter.

Quitman scored twice in the first half but never saw the endzone again until walking through it on the way to the locker room after the game.

In the third quarter Shelton scored from 71 yards out and Elijah Webster scorched the field on a 69-yard gallop into the endzone.

QC put up three scores in the final frame; a 33- yard touchdown run by Shelton, a 50-yard pass from Shelton to Rascoe and a 74-yard blitz by Mannesah Drayton.

Shelton passed for 255 yards and three touchdownas, and Gardner added 52 yards and a TD.

Rascoe had 213 passing yards with three touchdowns and Neal added 70 yards receiving.

On the ground the Bulldogs had 385 yards with Shelton posting 185 yards and three touchdowns, Droddy had 36 yards and a score, M. Drayton added 85 yards rushing and a touchdown and Webster recorded 70 yards rushing and a touchdown.

All-in-all the Bulldogs amassed almost 700 yards total offense in the game.
