Mayor honors Constitution with signed proclamation
On Thursday, Sept. 17, at Atlanta’s City Hall, Mayor Travis Ransom honored the Constitution, the touchstone of western democracy, with a written proclamation reaffirming Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 as Constitution Week.
On Aug. 2, 1956, a congressional joint resolution authorized and compelled the President of the United States of America to proclaim the week beginning September 17 and ending September 23 of each year as Constitution Week.
“The Constitution defines the structure of our federal government. It is the most remarkable political charter in history”, Ransom said.
Ransom signed the document while joined by two members of the Trammel’s Trace chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Traci Jones, Regent and Carolyn Addington, Vice Regent.
“DAR is an organization of descendants of those who served during the Revolutionary War”, Ransom said, “Their aim is to educate and preserve the history of this important moment in time as the foundation of our country was created.”
The document can be read in its entirety here:
