Appraisal board member resigns
At the Aug. 25 Cass County Appraisal board of directors meeting, before it was called to order, Chairman Byron Terry announced that director Scotty Bates had given his resignation the previous day.
Bates was appointed in December 2019 and is the second director to resign this year.
Terry cited no reason for Bates’ departure, but Bates did respond to an email for comment.
“I did resign my position as director of the Cass County Appraisal District [August]. It was the second meeting in a row that I missed since the timing of the meeting conflicted with other things in my life. There is much important work to be done by that board, and I think the district is deserving of more attention than I am able or willing to give. I learned a lot in my short tenure…I am confident that the remaining board is up to the challenges ahead”, Bates wrote.
The Cass County Appraisal board of directors convened last Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Historic Cass County Courthouse where the budget for 2021 was approved. No prospects have been mentioned for Bates’ replacement.
