High speed causes driver to lose control

An accident occurred on Thursday, September 3, around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Louise Street and Highway 59. According to an eyewitness, a white Mercedes was travelling at a high rate of speed and missed the sharp turn.

The vehicle rolled twice and slid on its roof down the sidewalk in front of Kaleh Signs, doing considerable damage to the building. Luckily, none of the employees working inside were hurt.

The witness was reported as saying the radar speed sign at the curve read 99 mph when the Mercedes passed in front of it.

The driver, Phillip Duke, 24, of Atlanta, was taken to Christus St. Michael-Atlanta with nonlife-threatening injuries.
