Lawnmower fire sends one to hospital
Fire crews were called to the scene of a fire on August 26 on FM 1635, between FM 249 and Highway 77 East.
According to Eric White, Assistant Fire Chief of Cass County ESD #2, Everett “Sam” Bass of Atlanta was mowing his lawn when he stopped to refuel the mower and it caught on fire and he was burned.
The fire spread to the nearby carport, where his pickup truck caught fire. It was believed that the victim received burns as he drove the truck away from the carport while it was burning.
His mobile home also received damage to the side next to the carport.
Units from both ESD #2 and ESD #3, as well as a LifeNet ambulance, responded to the 911 call within minutes.
Bass suffered non-life-threatening third degree burns on his forearms and a helicopter was called to transport him to a Texarkana hospital.
