Linden Together holds second meeting

On July 28, Linden Together held its second meeting to find ways of improving the community of Linden and were presented with a plethora of ideas from not only those involved with the group but also from those in the community and an exceptional group of girls.

Last week’s meeting saw the creation of their vision, which states, “Bringing Linden together by promoting opportunities and engaging the entire community while building relationships.” It also says the nature of their mission statement, “Creating a social network to facilitate community activities, engage in community service projects, advocate community needs to city leadership, and promote competitive employment.”

Each of the items listed in their mission statement became a subcommittee at the recent meeting. Volunteers stepped up to head each subcommittee at the meeting. Whitney Goebel will be directing the committee to facilitate community activities with plans already in the works for something special for just after the start of the school year. Larry Allen will head the committee to engage in community service projects and will be looking into the development of the community ponds. Coach Carla Hines will lead the committee to advocate community needs to the city leadership, and Christophe Trahan will head the committee to promote employment.

Many project ideas were shared at the meeting, including the development of community ponds, block parties, a food truck competition and even a lumberjack festival. However, it was the special guest speakers who caught the attention of the crowd. Members of the Total Chaos softball team put together a presentation for those gathered with ideas from the perspective of the youth of Linden. Their concepts included developing a youth center for all ages, a skating rink, a volleyball court, and sandpit, and they even inspired the idea of a youth council.

Linden Together will continue to meet; however, their meeting days will change according to need. Meetings are open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend. Dates and times will be posted on the Journal-Sun Facebook page.
