Atlanta ISD board meeting

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees of Atlanta ISD was held on Tuesday, June 23 at 6 P.M. at the District Administration Building. All members were in attendance as well as principals from all Atlanta schools. Minutes from the previous meeting, monthly financial report, quarterly investment report, and transfer students were all voted on and approved.

The main item on the agenda were updates to the handbooks from each campus, the district handbook, and the employee handbook. While most changes to the handbooks were fairly minor, some additions will affect the upcoming school year.

The primary and elementary campuses are adding 14 minutes to their school day, changing the first bell to 7:50 A.M., and dismissal time will be at 3:30 P.M. Also being changed is the cost of lunch for those who pay full price.

It will increase by one dollar. The high school also added a new class, Forensic Science.

This class was added based on overwhelming interest from students. All handbooks were voted on and approved for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

Other items on the agenda were certification for cybersecurity training for district staff which was approved. All pending wavers, personnel matters, and facilities matters were discussed during executive session, then voted on and approved. It was also voted on to file a waiver to continue to use the reading diagnostic instrument TPRI for the next year while more research is done on the state recommended ones.

The meeting was adjourned and will reconvene on its regular schedule, July 28.
